The newsletter

When you type your email address into a signup form and click Subscribe, we send the address to Kit. Kit is an email service from Kit.com. Kit stores your address and sends the emails for us.

• Kit sends you a first email with a confirmation link. If you do not click the link, we do not send more emails.
• We send emails about major updates to the site, about one email each month or two.
• We do not sell your email address. We do not give it to other parties.
• Each email has an unsubscribe link. When you click it, Kit removes you from the list.
• To delete all your data from Kit, unsubscribe or send an email to us.

Kit has its own privacy policy at kit.com/privacy.

Analytics

We use PostHog to count how many people read each page and which links they click. This data shows us which guides and tools are useful. PostHog records this data:

• The URL of the page and the site that sent you to it.
• The type of browser and device, and the screen size.
• An approximate location, from your IP address.
• Clicks on links to other sites.

PostHog stores a random ID in a cookie and in the local storage of your browser. The ID lets PostHog count one browser one time. We do not use this data to identify you by name.

PostHog has its own privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy.

Hosting

Cloudflare serves the pages of this site. Cloudflare records the IP address and the request of each visit in its server logs for security. Cloudflare has its own privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Data on your device

The site stores two small settings in the local storage of your browser. One setting holds your choice of the light or dark theme. The other setting records that you closed the newsletter box. This data does not leave your device. To remove it, clear the site data in your browser.

Links to other sites

Some links go to other sites, for example YouTube or online stores. Those sites have their own privacy policies. We do not control what they collect. Some links can be affiliate links. When you buy an item through an affiliate link, the store can pay us a commission. The store sets its own cookies for this.

Your rights

You can ask us which data we hold about you. You can ask us to correct it or to delete it. Send an email to contact@recreationalsuffering.com. We reply in 30 days or less. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to send a complaint to your data protection authority.

Children

This site is not for children under 16. We do not collect data from children on purpose. If you think a child gave us an email address, send us an email. We will delete the address.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we put the new date at the top of this page. Large changes to the newsletter also go into a newsletter email.
